The West Essex First Aid Squad (WEFAS) is an all-volunteer organization providing emergency medical services (EMS) and light rescue services to the New Jersey municipalities of Caldwell, Essex Fells, Fairfield, North Caldwell and West Caldwell. WEFAS is also a member of the NJ EMS Task Force. Most recently, we responded to the Hoboken train crash in September. These services are provided at no cost to our patients.
We currently have four ambulances, a rescue truck, and a support van to provide our services. Our members are NJ certified emergency medical technicians (EMTs) or are in training to become EMTs. In 2017, we answered 2,730 emergency and stand-by calls and our volunteer members donated 8,245 man-hours of their time answering those calls. Our members donate additional time in training and practice. We are able to do all this because of the generous donations of time and money from the communities we serve. Approximately 80% of the costs of providing our services comes from direct donations from the residents and businesses of our communities while an additional 14% comes from municipal government donations. You can help us to continue our life saving services. Use the link on this page to take you to our donation page where you can make a secure contribution using PayPal or major credit cards. WEFAS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and all donations are allowable income tax deductions.
