What We Do
The West Essex First Aid Squad provides 24-hour emergency medical services and rescue (Jaws of Life) to the West Essex area, all at no cost to the patient. Currently we have 4 fully equipped ambulances, a rescue truck, and a support vehicle.
How to Call the Squad
You should not be afraid to call the squad. Like all other health related organizations, the number one priority of the Squad is your safety and privacy. We take great care to tend to your medical needs and to make you feel as comfortable as possible. If you feel you need the assistance of the West Essex First Aid Squad, CALL 911 or your local police department number. Be prepared to give the dispatcher your name, phone number, what happened and where the incident occurred. They will dispatch the police and request the West Essex First Aid Squad to respond if necessary
When to Call the Squad
You should CALL 911 immediately if you or someone near you appears to be having difficulty breathing, a heart attack or stroke, severe head, neck, or back pain, suffered a fall, was involved in an automobile accident, or has suffered any other significant injury, or is feeling or looking differently than is normal for them.
How the Squad Works With Other Agencies
On each call the Squad works closely with your local police who will be the first resonders. When needed Paramedic Mobile Intensive Care units will respond out of local hospitals including Mountainside and St. Barnabas and will supplement our care with Advanced Life Support capability. The Squad also works closely with local fire departments to provide medical care to firefighters as well as civilian patients at fire scenes.
