A fixture across the West Essex community
WEFAS is committed to providing life-saving care and services to residents throughout West Essex and the surrounding area. Even if you’ve never required our care, chances are, you’ve seen us out and about, supporting the community and creating a safer place to live and work.
Blood drives
In our community, we look out for each other, and blood is the most precious gift that you can give to someone in need. A decision to donate can treat patients with very specific conditions and ultimately save lives. That’s why we host up to three community blood drives a year, making it easy to help one another.
Community events
WEFAS often provides a standby ambulance for large community events and high school varsity football games. If you’re planning a large event in one of our areas served, reach out to ask if we’re available. WEFAS also welcomes the opportunity to speak about the services we provide and increase public knowledge about first aid, the role of our squad and volunteer opportunities available. To schedule a presentation for your school or organization, email our Community Outreach Coordinator.

Planning for the future
Over the last several years, NJ has approved new skills and interventions for EMTs, including:
- CPAP for respiratory distress
- EpiPen® for severe allergic reactions
- Narcan® for opiate overdoses
- Oral aspirin for chest pain
WEFAS is proud to have obtained the training, equipment and supplies to incorporate these life-saving skills into the care we provide our patients. It is possible that more interventions may be approved in the future, such as blood glucose testing. With your help, we can continue adding new skills to our patient-care arsenal as soon as they’re approved.
