To volunteer with WEFAS, applicants must be 16 or older and live, work or attend school in the towns we serve. Additionally, if you have a current New Jersey or National Registry EMT certification and live in Morris or Essex County, you are also eligible to be a WEFAS volunteer.
Additionally, you must have the ability to:
- Communicate effectively
- Lift, carry, and balance up to 75 pounds
- Use good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations
- Be unaffected by loud noises and flashing lights
- Demonstrate good manual dexterity
- Withstand varied environmental conditions
- Work in low light environments
If you meet the criteria and want to make a real difference in people’s lives, follow these four steps to get started:
1 — Complete the online form below. We’ll contact you to schedule an interview.
2 — Visit the Squad for your interview. (Applicants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.) You’ll be asked to fill out an application, provide references, submit to a background check and have your primary care physician fill out the necessary medical forms.
3 — Once you’re notified of your approval via email, you can register for our 10-week training course, which includes CPR training. Each session is approximately two hours once a week. Training must be completed unless you already have a New Jersey or National Registry EMT certification.
4 — Congratulations! You’ll be assigned to a crew and begin your volunteer journey with WEFAS.
